Referring to himself as a “left-leaning democrat,” in the October 2011 issue, the 34-year-old admitted that his decision to come out was influenced by another gay teenager’s story.
Regardless of the recent legalization of gay marriage in NYC, Zach said, “Later you have Jamey Rodemeyer killing himself, yet another gay teenager bullied into taking his own life.”

The Heroes star explained that the boy’s story sincerely effected him. “As a gay man, I look at that and say there’s a hopelessness that surrounds it. But as a human being, I look at it and say, ‘Why?’”
Zachary’s latest flick with Kevin Spacey and Demi Moore, Margin Call, is set to be released in theaters on Oct. 21.
