Reese Witherspoon stepped up to raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer on Sunday when she joined 3,500 activists and survivors in Avon’s annual charity walk.
An Honorary Chairperson for the Avon Foundation for Women since 2007, Witherspoon strolled with participants and presented $9.1 million in grants on the foundationâs behalf, according to eonline.com
“There are more than 2 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, but we cannot forget that every three minutes there is a new diagnosis,” the âWalk The Line,â star said in a MarketWatch press release. “Opportunities to get involved in the fight against breast cancer surround us in October and I urge everyone to contribute in some way.â
Witherspoon is certainly practicing what she preaches.
Earlier this month, the star kicked off her cancer activism when joined her husband, Jim Toth, and Matthew McConaughey at an LA Livestrong fundraising event, Popsugar.com reported.
Avonâs walking series is the largest fundraising source for the organizationâs Breast Cancer Crusade and has donated more than $700 million for research and advancing access to care, since its 1992 launch, the MarketWatch press release noted.
The organization brought in $8.4 million on Sunday, according to Eonline.com
