It was ’80s night on Dancing With the Stars last night which means only one thing: Big hair! Well, that and a lot of outfits we’d rather forget. As J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff boogied to the beat of Gloria Estefan’s “Conga,” the audience and judges alike couldn’t seem to simmer down. Find out more after the jump!
As pointed out by MTV, Len Goodman remarked, ”Way to go, Jose! I didn’t think you’d come out and perform anything like that, because normally guys and the samba don’t work together. But in the future, if anyone says to me how should a guy dance the dance, I’ll say just have a look at J.R.” With an overall score of 28 out of 30, looks like this couple isn’t going home anytime soon.

Not to be overlooked though is Ricki Lake who was pumped up by the surprise visit of John Waters who discovered her back in the day for her first role in Hairspray. Ricki and Derek Hough danced the foxtrot to Phil Collins and Philip Bailey’s hit, “Easy Lover.” Although the judges felt their Roger Rabbit dance at the beginning of their routine was a bit cheesy, the heart of the dance was tough to beat and earned them a score of 24.
Carrie Ann Inaba said, ”You did the Roger Rabbit the first time, and you were way off. But when you two dance, what I love the most is how amazingly you work as a team. It’s like you’re one person.”

Not to be overlooked, however were Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke. They did the rumba to Lionel Richie’s “Hello” which left the judges excited to see more. Bruno Tonioli said, “We’re starting to see Rob the heartthrob. For the first time, I see you using Cheryl as a partner, not hiding behind her, but becoming part of a unit.”
Rob and Cheryl earned a score of 25, as did David Arquette and Kym Johnson. Impressed by their tango to “Tainted Love,” Len exclaimed, ”We’re at the halfway stage now. From here on in, you have to show up or shut up. You have shown up, and it was fantastic!”
