Ever since Universal Pictures dropped the multi-platform project The Dark Tower, director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have been seeking out a new home for this sprawling Stephen King adaptation. The original plan, when the project was at Universal, was to have a TV series run between The Dark Tower movie trilogy, although the budget proved to be too much for Universal and NBC to handle. Producer Brian Grazer recently revealed that HBO is coming on board to produce the TV portion of this epic adaptation. Here’s what he had to say below.
The producer also said they have been cutting costs to get the budget down, much like Lone Ranger was forced to do before Disney gave it the green light.
We reported in August that Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are seeking independent financing for The Dark Tower, with hopes that a major studio will latch on after the funding is secured. Universal was both fully financing and distributing The Dark Tower movie trilogy and TV series when it was attached to the project.
