With her shocking split from Kris Humphries, only 72 days after their lavish televised wedding took place, how can reality queen Kim Kardashian do some major damage control? Etiquette expert Lisa Gache, president and founder of Beverly Hills Manners, gives In Touch tips on how Kim should handle her public heartbreak.
1. Be Civil. “Although it is a very difficult and sad time for Kim, the best advice is for her to maintain civility and retain her dignity and self-respect by not acting with bitterness or condemnation towards her soon-to-be ex.”
2. Don’t Spill! “Although she is very much in the public eye, she is under no obligation to divulge every last detail as to why the marriage ended. Certain occasions are simply meant to remain private.”
3. Return the Gifts. “It is expected that when an engagement is broken, all wedding presents that have been received previously and/or any monies that have been given to the couple, be returned with a handwritten note expressing sincere gratitude. According to Kim, she will be doing the right thing by ‘donating the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation.’”
4. Keep the Ring. “The wedding ring is seen as a gift from the groom to the bride. Since the wedding did actually take place and the wedding ring was not an heirloom from Kris’ family, it is perfectly acceptable for Kim to keep her 16.5-carat emerald-ring, although I’m not so sure she’ll want to continue wearing it.”
Momager Kris Jenner has already begun her rounds of damage control, sitting down with Today’s Ann Curry, insisting the marriage “certainly wasn’t a sham, certainly wasn’t for TV.” Kim has been receiving a lot of criticism for her failed marriage. Lisa’s advice to not divulge all of the intimate details might be just what she needs to get the press off her back!
