Screenwriter Ian Fried has sold his spec screenplay Spectral to Legendary Pictures.
The story centers on a special ops group who hunt down and destroy evil ghosts which are starting to take over Manhattan. The project is being compared to Ghostbusters, but with a much darker tone. The writer’s pitch sold for six figures to Legendary Pictures.
It is said Ian Fried made the sale after presenting a “rip reel” to Legendary, a mash-up of scenes from other supernatural-themed movies which represented the tone and visual style of Spectral.
No production schedule was given for Spectral.
