Robert Hall will direct a remake of the 1986 cult oddity Chopping Mall, also producing and co-writing alongside Kevin Bocarde, for Dry County Entertainment.
Roger Corman and his wife Julie Corman produced the original Chopping Mall, which followed a group of older teens trapped in a shopping mall that had been taken over by killer robots.
Kevin Bocarde had this to say about the retooled version of the script, which won’t be a direct facsimile of the original.
“It will retain the basic concept of young people trapped in a mall; however, the story will have a darker, supernatural spin. This is an exciting way to pay homage and honor Roger while also expanding the original film’s premise.”
The Chopping Mall redux will begin shooting this spring.
Chopping Mall was released March 21st, 1986 and stars Kelli Maroney, Tony O’Dell, Russell Todd, Karrie Emerson, Barbara Crampton, Nick Segal, John Terlesky, Suzee Slater. The film is directed by Jim Wynorski.
