Things somehow managed to get even more complicated on Monday night’s episode of ABC’s Bachelor Pad in which the remaining contestants were forced to couple off and compete as a team for the remainder of the season.
The announcement was made at the top of the hour by — who else? — host Chris Harrison, sending everybody, especially poor, Michael-less Rachel, into a bit of a frenzy.
But that was nothing compared to this week’s challenge, in which the contestants — ugh, couples — were forced to compete in a low-ball, low-brow spelling bee and spell out words like “love” and, yes, “rose.”
Note: Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched Monday’s episode.
Naturally, the words got harder (well …) as the game went on, and soon it all boiled down to a match between Ed and Jaclyn and Chris and Sarah.
As so often happens on Bachelor Pad, the villainous couple won out in the end, and Chris and Sarah were effectively saved from elimination.
That also meant viewers had to sit through a date between Chris and Sarah, who spent their winnings riding around on a private trolley, jumping into a lake and sharing their feelings toward one another over dinner.
Sounds romantic, right? Sure — until you realize that Sarah was being wooed by arguably the most manipulative contestant Bachelor Pad has seen since Elizabeth Kitt. Seriously, when will this girl wise up? Never? Probably not, ugh.
Anyway, Ed and Jaclyn also got to go out on a date, for whatever reason, and boy, was that painful. Poor Jaclyn thought something might be brewing between her and Ed — and rightfully so, as they had been, you know, sharing a bed together and everything.
But leave it to Ed to drop the bomb that he still has feelings for someone he used to date at home. The news shocked Jaclyn to the core, and reduced her to tears in a later interview.
“I just always feel like I’m the girl who’s getting f***** over … What am I doing wrong?” she asked.
Unfortunately, the bomb was dropped during part one of their date. Which meant they had to have another awkward conversation over dinner. Jaclyn, still determined to make something, anything, out of their relationship, begged Ed to give her some explanation as to what they were doing.
Ed, being Ed, did what guys tend to do — ie, he let Jaclyn down gently without actually defining anything at all.
“I want to sleep in the same bed with you, and I want to be close with you,” he concluded.
With their awkward date out of the way, Jaclyn and Ed were at least able to make one logical decision: give the rose to Blakeley and Tony.
Which basically meant that Monday’s eliminations would come down to Kalon and Lindzi and Rachel and that guy whose name I always forget is Nick.
Kalon quickly realized that this was the worst possible scenario for himself and Lindzi — and whaddya know? He was 100 percent right. They were quickly eliminated at the end of the show, leaving just four couples left to compete for the $250,000 jackpot.
Oh yeah. And love.
Buzz Moments
OMG!: Did Ed really think Jaclyn knew about his relationship — or whatever it is — with that girl back home? Come on, now.
Thank you, TV gods: That kid who controlled the spelling bee bell was kind of awesome. He totally needs to compete on the show next season. If that’s even legal.
Awk-ward: Ed and Jaclyn’s date — or whatever it was. Enough said.
Hotness: Wait. Where did all of the hot guys on this show go?
Fab-u-lous: Even though she basically got her heartbroken on national television, Jaclyn still came out of Monday’s episode looking pretty awesome. Love her.
Can. Not. Wait.: Will Chris and Sarah save themselves AGAIN next week? Please say no. Please.
