For those of you wondering if Carly Rae Jepsen was going to be a one-hit wonder given the smashing success of her debut single “Call Me Maybe,” then the time has come to listen to the Canadian artist’s follow-up single — “This Kiss” — and decide.
Yet another catchy pop tune, “This Kiss” sounds like a B-side off Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album, which could help Jepsen, 26, score her second No. 1 single.
What else can fans expect from the singer’s debut album Kiss?
Jepsen’s first U.S. album Kiss drops on Sept. 18, and it looks like the young songstress is poised to make a grand entrance onto the Billboard 200.
The 16-song record includes her international hit “Call Me Maybe” and “Good Time,” her collaboration with Owl City, plus “Beautiful,” a duet with her 18-year-old mentor Justin Bieber. Meanwhile, Jepsen also worked with superstar producers Max Martin, Dallas Austin and Toby Gad on her freshman album.
“The record is pop,” Jepsen said in a statement. “It’s inspired by Robyn, the Cars, Madonna, and believe it or not, James Taylor. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
But how does Jepsen’s new single — which has the singer crooning, “This kiss is something I can’t resist. / Your lips are undeniable. / This kiss is something I can’t risk. / Your heart is unreliable” — compare to Faith Hill’s 1998 classic of the same name?
