Can’t wait until Season 4 of Glee kicks off on Thursday? Here are some fresh spoilers to tide you over, straight from the mouths of the cast.
Artie Abrams (Kevin McHale) will be the glee club’s new leader, helping New Directions find its “New Rachel.” (That’s the title of the season premiere episode, in fact.) What happens, however, when the leader needs some guidance of his own?
In the fifth episode of the season, Mercedes (Amber Riley) and Mike Chang (Harry Shum Jr.) will come back to McKinley High School to lend Artie a hand with a mysterious situation. ”They’re helping me out,” McHale teased to The Hollywood Reporter.
What else did the cast dish about Season 4?
Mike Chang will make his triumphant return to Lima — after his first semester at the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago — and while his ex-girlfriend Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) will certainly be on his mind, she’s not Mike’s first priority.
“He’s a mama’s boy so he wants to go back home and see his parents,” Shum. told THR. “He also wants to go for Artie, who has a situation that he needs help on, and Mike comes back and tries to be a good friend.”
As for Tina, she’s going to exercise her bratty side this season. After all, Rachel (Lea Michele) did promise her that she would be lead vocalist this year. Unfortunately, Marley (Melissa Benoist) is going to give Tina a vocal run for her money. Will that drive Tina to the dark side?
“I’ve always [wanted Tina] to be on the Cheerios at some point, so hopefully we’ll see. I’ve been pushing for it,” Ushkowitz revealed, hinting that Tina and Kitty (Becca Tobin) could have an interesting storyline this season. But for now, Kitty’s No. 1 target is head Cheerio Brittany (Heather Morris) — and she’ll do anything to get her way.
Meanwhile, “Richie Poor” a.k.a. “White Chocolate” a.k.a. “Trouty Mouth” a.k.a. Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) will take on more of a mentorship role within New Directions, assuming Finn’s (Cory Monteith) position as the glee club’s male lead.
While Sam unfortunately doesn’t get to contribute to Artie and Blaine’s (Darren Criss) “Boys/Boyfriend” mash-up in the second episode — entitled “Britney 2.0″ — Overstreet said he would like to see the Justin Bieber Experience return. ”I’ve been talking about that with Ryan,” he told THR.
Overstreet also missed out on Glee’s “Call Me Maybe” cover, which features Tina, Brittany, Blaine and Unique (Alex Newell) vying for the honor of being named “The New Rachel.”
