New York Fashion Week Spring 2013: Avril Lavigne Shows She’s Just a Skater Girl With New Collection (GALLERY)

Avril Lavigne has followed in Gwen Stefani’s footsteps, transitioning from rock star to fashion designer. The singer, who launched her lifestyle brand, Abbey Dawn, in 2008 and debuted her first collection at New York Fashion Week in September 2009, showed her Spring 2013 collection at New York Fashion Week on Monday.

Although Lavigne is no longer dating Brody Jenner and recently announced her engagement to Chad Kroeger, the singer has remained close to her former flame’s younger sister. She asked Kylie Jenner to walk the runway again for her Spring 2013 collection.

Like Stefani, Avril’s collection is very much an extension of her own personal style, with a girlie-rocker vibe. For her Spring 2013 collection, edgy black-and-white pieces were contrasted with bright pops of color for spring. And models even sported blue and pink hair (similar to blue and pink dip-dyed streaks Lavigne is currently sporting). While Kylie skipped the colored hair, she gave a very Avril-esque pose, flashing her tongue on the runway.

Not surprisingly, the edgy rocker included numerous punk influences, from the requisite studded leather jackets and skull-and-crossbones motifs to ripped denim and shredded tees. But with today’s skater girl in mind, Lavigne countered tougher pieces with feminine silhouettes, pairing a blue striped A-line dress with a skeleton design, and a red sheath with a black lace peplum and studded straps.
