The last night of the three-night premiere of NBC’s The Voice brought out the big guns with some epic and spine-chilling performances.
While Wednesday’s blind auditions brought us a mother/daughter duo, a former boy band member, and a hip hop dancer, it was really three other performers who made us and the coaches feel like they could really go all the way in the competition.
Team Adam cleaned up when it came to these awe-inspiring singers nabbing both an unlikely reggae performer and a self-proclaimed hippie with powerful pipes while Christina Aguilera was lucky enough to snag a man who wants to make inspiring music.
So what’s the scoop on Wednesday’s three best contestants?
Opening the night was Samuel Mouton, 19, whose uncle signed him up for the competition. Almost all the coaches said they felt something as the young pizza maker sang Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song.”
While Cee Lo Green commented on his amazing ability to adopt the song for his own, Adam Levine’s comment that “you made us feel something very special by doing very little” won the young singer over. In the end he chose Team Adam.
Also choosing the Maroon 5 front man’s team was the last performer of the night, Nicole Nelson.
The 34-year-old self-proclaimed hippie from Vermont pulled off an amazing rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujiah,” which brought the house to its feet. Nelson gave the only performance of the night that received a pushed button from all four judges.
Seriously, she was so good that our goose bumps had goose bumps. Perhaps the best description of her performance was Green’s commentary that, “you can not pretend that connection with people.” She killed it.
Joining Aguilera’s team on Wednesday was the Nigerian born, Nelly’s Echo.
With a profound name — “based off the premise that music is a two way street” — you knew magic would happen as he graced the stage with his guitar to sing “Ain’t No Sunshine.” A great voice with beautiful tone, the singer pulled off a terrific arrangement of the classic song.
Further explaining his name to Carson Daly, he told him, “Nelly is the performer and echo is the audience’s appreciation of the performance.” In addition to his gorgeous name, Nelly also told us about the struggles he and his family had to face when leaving their home country.
While these three performers wowed us on Wednesday’s show, we can’t forget that there were others who also made the cut to the battle rounds.
Team Adam also added Loren Allred to his team while Team Christina added Lisa Schinta and Marisa Ann. The outspoken firecracker with a booming voice, Damo, joined Green’s team. And Blake Shelton won over the mother/daughter country duo of 2 Steele girls.
So far every team is shaping up nicely and we can’t wait to see who they’ll add in next week’s blind auditions.
