NHL Lockout 2012: Famous Hockey Fans Who Will Miss the Game This Season (GALLERY)

The 2012-2013 National Hockey Season officially began its lockout on Sunday, after the players and league failed to reach a decision on a labor dispute. The last collective bargaining agreement expired at midnight.

As a result, some 700 NHL players are turning to leagues in Europe and beyond for potential play time.

From diehard L.A. Kings fans like Will Ferrell, Matthew Perry and David Beckham to the newly-engaged Elisha Cuthbert (who is set to marry a Toronto Maple Leafs player), Hollywood too will soon be looking at other options to fill their now-empty hockey season.

Glee star Cory Monteith, a lifelong Vancouver Canucks fan, had a few words to get off his chest following news of the lockout.

“this lockout is bogus. Maybe the NHL and the NHLPA brass have something to learn from other leagues? who don’t have as many disputes?” he wrote on Twitter early Sunday morning.

The lockout marks the NHL’s third in nearly two decades. The last lockout closed the 2004-2005 season.
