Justin Bieber has extra incentive to accept a recent invitation from the East Coast Hockey League: if he joins the team, he’d be among some of his biggest fans.
“We’ve got a pretty young team, so they’re fans of his,” says Bakersfield Condors head coach Matt O’Dette, whose crew offered the 18-year-old Canadian pop star an amateur contract on Tuesday. “I’ve actually heard his music in the locker room a few times.”
And the hockey players are proud Beliebers…
“They’re not afraid to admit it,” says O’Dette. “They’ve got a case of Bieber fever. They may be big tough guys, but don’t let that fool you.”
The “Boyfriend” singer is no stranger to the ice, having skated casually with the Toronto Maple Leafs. And while O’Dette is still awaiting a response after contacting Bieber’s management team, the coach is realistic about the likelihood of Selena Gomez‘s beau giving up his high-profile superstar gig.
“Realistically, we know he’s busy, but our schedule is open so anytime throughout the year he can suit up with us,” O’Dette says, noting that Bieber’s presence would certainly lift spirits that have been damped by a possible NHL lockout.
“Eventually the news will get to him, and he’s coming to our area for his tour so you never know. Justin can stop in and practice with us and give us a shot.”
