‘American Idol’ Alum Pia Toscano Talks New Music and Returning to the FOX Show (EXCLUSIVE VIDEO)

Winning a TV singing competition is amazing, but sometimes being eliminated can be a blessing as well. That’s the case for American Idol Season 10 competitor and fan favorite Pia Toscano.

Celebuzz caught up with the singer in Los Angeles during her first week back in the recording studio as she works on her debut album and she tells us that she’d love to return to Idol for a couple reasons.

“I wish that I could go back as a mentor for the contestants,” the singer tells Celebuzz. “Because I feel they should add that because we’ve been through it a little bit. So, we know what’s going on and we could give them some advice.”

What advice would she give the contestants?

“It’s a really hard process and you really need to live in the moment and have fun. And I think that’s what I didn’t do enough of,” the 23-year-old tells us. “I was so technical through the whole entire process and I would kind of over-think everything.”

After parting ways with Insterscope Records over a difference of opinion in September, the former wedding band singer is now working with producer Harvey Mason, Jr. of The Underdogs. They originally met on the FOX competition show and Mason has worked with big artists including Whitney Houston, Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson and Justin Timberlake.

The team is aiming to have the album out this winter, which makes the timing perfect for Toscano to perform its first single when Idol returns in January.

But, will she be nervous when she returns to the show with her new single?

“Absolutely, because that’s where I got my first opportunity on that stage,” she tells us. “And I’d love to return, because it is kind of home to me. It launched everything. I feel like you’re not alive if you’re not nervous. Sometimes, I perform even worse when I’m not. I do get those crazy butterflies, but it’s a good feeling because after it’s all done, it’s like, ‘Yes!’ ”
