Real Housewife of Atlanta Nene Leakes is one of those rare personalities who have been able to make the transition from reality star to full-fledged actress in NBC’s hit The New Normal.
In addition to her new job, Leakes will continue to appear on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Atlanta this season. After a much-publicized on-screen divorce with ex-husband Gregg Leakes during last season, we can expect the upcoming fifth season of the show to chronicle the couple’s reconciliation.
Gregg who also attended The New Normal’s Paley Center preview panel with the star was with Leakes when she attended Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy part at Fig & Olive in Beverly Hills Friday.
Of the current state of their relationship, she told Celebuzz at the event, “We’re doing good. We’re parents so we are working it out.” The two have a 13-year-old son, Brentt.
Leakes also talked to us about her transition to scripted television at the hands of Glee and The New Normal c0-creator Ryan Murphy.
After Murphy gave the actress a small stint on the FOX musical show as swim coach Roz, he hand-picked her for the role of the feisty Rocky on The New Normal. He even changed the role a bit to suit her personality. Leakes’ Rocky is the sassy and fierce assistant of Bryan (Andrew Rannells) on the NBC show.
“It feels really good for Ryan Murphy to even say ‘Hey, I saw you and I want you to come work for me on my shows.’ That to me was just amazing,” said Leakes. “I’m very blessed.”
As for the upcoming season of Housewives, she says “Good luck girls! If you tune into the fifth season you will see a lot happening with the house. It will be a bumpy ride as always but entertaining.”
The New Normal airs Tuesdays at 9:30 PM on NBC. Bravo’s Real Housewives of Atlanta will return Sunday, Nov. 4 at 9 PM.
