The Daily Buzz: Celebuzz’s Emmy Picks, Academy Politics, Plus Thoughts on Host Jimmy Kimmel (VIDEO)

With the Emmys coming up this weekend, our senior TV editor Jethro Nededog and Access Hollywood correspondent Laura Saltman stopped by The Daily Buzz to discuss what they think will go down on TV’s biggest night.

Who will win Best Comedy? Best Drama? What do we think about host Jimmy Kimmel?

Both Nededog and Saltman agree that there’s no contest: Modern Family will take comedy’s top prize on Sunday Night. Also nominated for the distinguished award are The Big Bang Theory, Veep, Girls, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and 30 Rock.

Saltman adds, “I know a lot of the critics really love Girls but it’s a first year comedy and not a lot of people have seen it yet it’s got a lot of buzz but it’s just not there yet.”

As for Best Drama, Saltman thinks it will be a battle of the AMC giants, Mad Men and Breaking Bad. If Mad Men takes the award it will be the fifth time the drama has won the coveted trophy.

In addition to these AMC shows, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire are nominated.

Nededog thinks we should be on the lookout for Showtime’s Homeland. The high-paced drama, starring Claire Danes and Damian Lewis was a critical favorite last season.

“It’s just so tightly scripted and well-acted,” says Nededog of the contender.

As for host Jimmy Kimmel, both of our experts are looking forward to seeing his reportedly huge prank.
