Not only will The X Factor’s Demi Lovato be talking about her body image issues on Monday afternoon’s episode of Katie with host Katie Couric, but the talk show host herself will make a confession of her own.
As reported by the New York Post, Couric will reveal her struggles with bulimia.
“I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that,” the 55-year-old says. “And I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that’s wrong, you’re full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it’s one cookie or a stick of gum that isn’t sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that.
What else did she reveal about her body image issues?
Couric was open and honest when she said, “How do you have a healthy relationship with food, and say, ‘You know what, I can have one cookie and it’s OK’? That is such a huge thing for people who wrestle with this.”
The talk show host and news anchor apparently suffered from the eating disorder from age 18 to 24 when she was attending college at the University of Virginia and beginning her career at ABC news.
Sources told The Post she was able to overcome the disorder by researching into the medical damage resulting from bulimia as well as therapy. Couric has been able to keep healthy by exercising regularly and keep a well balance. She is reportedly a spinning enthusiast, often working out at the spin studio, Flywheel.
Katie will air Monday Afternoon on ABC. Check local listings for times and stations.
