Keira Knightley is no stranger to corsets and period costumes. The actress has donned her share of both for films like Pride and Prejudice and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but her latest role in the big-screen version of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina really has us wishing we lived in a time when big ball gowns and waist-whittling torture devices were de rigueur.
From the feathered hats, extravagant gowns, military-inspired pieces, fur details and glittering jewels, we’re as excited about the fashion as we are about the film itself.
So we couldn’t be more excited to hear that after its successful Mad Men-inspired collection, Banana Republic is introducing a 56-piece capsule holiday collection based on the costumes Knightley and Jude Law (who plays Knightley’s husband in the film) don to play the 19th century Russian socialites.
So what are we already eyeing from BR’s Anna Karenina collection?
The Anna Karenina collection, which will be available just before the film’s release on November 9, is filled with holiday staples that will take you from the office to cocktail hour.
“We’re going to pull it together in a way that feels wearable,” BR’s creative director Simon Kneen says.
To translate the costume’s over-the-top glamour into more practical pieces that will work in your winter wardrobe, Kneen partnered with the film’s costume designer, Jacqueline Durran.
“I was given the unique chance to apply my passion for period styles to a collection that translates to fashion today,” Durran raves about the experience.
For the women’s line, expect ladylike styles and luxe add-ons that look far more expensive than their reasonable price tags would imply. Think: faux fur-trimmed stoles and cardis to crystal-encrusted statement necklaces and lace shifts that will amp up any modern wardrobe.
While you’ll have to wait until November to scoop up the pieces, here’s a preview of what you have to look forward to for your holiday party attire.
