It was to be another major coup for media doyenne Barbara Walters and ABC’s 20/20, but alas it was clearly not meant to happen. Lindsay Lohan pulled out of her much-publicized interview with Walters late on Thursday.
“We are disappointed that Lindsay cancelled the interview,” an ABC News spokesperson tells Celebuzz. “And wish her well.”
As Celebuzz previously reported, a source says the star and her new publicists at firm Rogers & Cowan “were dissatisfied with the direction ABC wanted to take the interview.”
Subsequently, a source tells TMZ that talks broke down over ABC News’ request to speak with the 26-year-old about her personal life, including her car accident in June.
The incident is still under investigation amid allegations that Lohan lied to police about the crash. The PR firm reportedly wanted to avoid the possibility that Lohan will say something during the sit-down that will adversely affect her case.
Reportedly, Lohan feels terrible about canceling on Walters, who she considers to be a family friend.
Lohan was set to appear on the news magazine show to promote her Lifetime TV movie, Liz & Dick. The star plays Elizabeth Taylor in the movie that chronicles the Cleopatra star’s dramatic relationship with two-time husband, actor Richard Burton.
Lohan’s reps didn’t immediately respond to Celebuzz’s request for comment.
