What do Twilight and Harry Potter have in common? Elaborate themes of fantasy? That one’s a given. Dedicated cult followings? The numbers prove that. But what about Robert Pattinson?
That last one might come as a shock to some; but believe it or not, there was life for RPattz before Bella and Edward.
Just nine years ago, one of today’s most talked about movie stars was just a regular teen, acting in amateur plays in London theater, far away from Hollywood drama and cheating scandals.
Then, in 2003, a 17-year-old Pattinson landed the highly coveted role of Cedric Diggory, a handsome Hufflepuff in 2005’s Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. And the rest is history.
This particular Potter flick centers around an esteemed competition for which young wizards are chosen to represent their schools. But, when Cedric and Harry are both selected as Hogwarts’ finest, the sportsmanlike games quickly turn into a death mission, carefully orchestrated by the film’s evil villain Lord Voldemort.
In this pivotal scene, Cedric and Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) race through an ominous maze to the “Goblet of Fire” in what is supposed to be the final challenge. But, it all goes terribly awry when the young wizards wind up in Voldemort’s company and poor Cedric is killed on the spot.
As Pattinson acknowledged in a 2011 interview with SheKnows.com, “When Harry Potter came along, it was a huge step and a massive event in my life!”
Looks like we can thank their casting director for bringing R.Pattz overseas and into our lives.
