Skyfall has been enjoying record-breaking success in theaters, but will Bella and Edward Cullen be able to topple James Bond’s reign at the box office this weekend?
Twilight‘s fifth installment, Breaking Dawn — Part 2, is potentially 007′s biggest competition as hit debuts in theaters Friday.
As the famous vampire franchise’s final film, it’s looking to draw hoards of Twi-hards to silver screens — with some fans even camping out on the streets three days before the movie’s premiere.
Starting off where Part 1 finished, the last Twilight film focuses more on Bella (Kristen Stewart) adjusting to life as a vampire and less on the series’ infamous feud between Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob (Taylor Lautner).
“This movie was the first movie that was not about a triangle,” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg told Celebuzz.
“It’s really about an epic battle, an impending battle and gathering the troops,” she said.
“[Jacob] really is equal parts in that, actually, because his troops are the wolves and, you know, his job is as protector of Renesmee. So I was really glad to see there is a real sense of him throughout the movie.”
However, Breaking Dawn‘s fight for box office supremacy will not be an easy one as Skyfall shattered its own record when it debuted in theaters on Nov. 9.
Grossing over $518.6 million worldwide, Skyfall not only made the biggest opening ever for a Bond film, but set the stage for the biggest international gross in the franchise’s history as well.
Starring Daniel Craig and Judi Dench, the film revolves around the famous English spy tracking down a threat to the M16 — and destroying it at all costs.
