Cate Blanchett in Talks to Play Cinderella’s Evil Stepmother: 8 Memorable Stepmothers From the Big Screen (GALLERY)

Cate Blanchett may soon turn to her evil side for an upcoming project.

According to Deadline, the Australian actress is in talks to play Cinderella’s evil stepmother in Disney’s live-action revamp of the classic tale.

Blanchett, 43, would be the first star to join the new Cinderella, which already has a director in Mark Romanek.

If she signs on, Blanchett will join the likes of Angelica Huston, Susan Sarandon and Donna Murphy, actresses who have channeled their inner evil for stepmother roles on the big screen.

Earlier this year, Tinseltown welcomed two versions of Snow White’s evil stepmother: Julia Roberts and Charlize Theron in Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman, respectively.

Blanchett can next be seen on the big screen in The Hobbit, in which she reprises her role as the beautiful elf Galadriel. The first of the film trilogy opens in theaters Dec. 14.

In the mean time, here’s a look at some of the most memorable big screen stepmothers in recent memory.
