Over the last decade or so, Naomi Watts has become one of Hollywood’s most reliable actresses.
The 44-year-old Oscar nominee, who got her big break in David Lynch’s mind-bending drama Mulholland Dr., will continue to stretch her wide range on Friday in the emotional drama The Impossible, in which she plays a wife and mother who tries to find her family after the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
Thus far, Watts — who next year will play the late Princess Diana in the aptly titled biopic Diana — has picked up multiple nominations for the film, and is already being positioned as a contender for her second Oscar nomination come January.
Will it actually happen? Time will tell.
In the meantime, with the film out today, Celebuzz thought it would be a good chance to look back at Watts’ eclectic and critically acclaimed career on the big screen, from Mulholland Dr. to The Ring and, most recently, Fair Game.
