Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest are no strangers to stiff competition, even so off-camera.
According to Derek, whose sister Julianne Hough is currently dating the media mogul, they like to keep their game faces on — especially during the holidays.
So what’s on the Christmas party plan for his family?
It’s all about game night.
“Catch Phrase. It’s a good game,” Derek said of his family’s holiday tradition, “I’m just laying it out there, if you don’t know what Catch Phrase is, it’s the best game. I love it!”
“We are like pretty mellow,” Derek told Celebuzz at the Trevor Live event in West Hollywood.
“I’m looking forward to going in the snow: snowmobiling and snowboarding and all those wonderful things,” he continued.
“It’s funny, I saw Ryan last night and he was like, ‘Oh, we got you back! We got you back, man!’ Because you’re in a bubble for like three months.”
Now that the 27-year-old has wrapped the latest season of Dancing With the Stars: All-Stars, coming in second place behind winners Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, there are no hard feelings.
“When you don’t hear your name being called out, it kind of stings for a second,” he said of the loss. “But saying that, it couldn’t have happened to nicer people and more deserving.”
“It was amazing. Probably one of my favorite seasons. [My partner] Shawn Johnson was just incredible. She was fantastic…I’m very, very proud of that season. It’s one of those seasons where it kind of re-inspired me about the show.”
Even with some well-deserved time off for the holidays, Derek won’t be able kick his feet up off the dance floor just yet.
“I can’t relax,” he said, laughing. “I tried the other day like sitting at home and I was like, ‘Ugh, I got to go!’”
