HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Fans not looking forward to the end of ABC’s “Lost” just got a little bonus.
Two additional hours have been added to the hit ABC show’s final two seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
One hour each has been added to the 2009 and 2010 seasons, which will be the series’ last. Both seasons will now be 17-hours long, instead of the planned 16.
The move was a result of last year’s WGA strike, which knocked three hours off the current season. An additional hour was already added to part two of this year’s finale, which airs May 29.
“We were supposed to do 16-16-16,” the show’s co-creator Damon Lindelof told the Reporter. “But we ended up doing 14 this season, so we owe two.”
Lindelof says this year’s finale won’t be “as tricky as last year,” but he says it will hopefully get people looking forward to next season. He also hinted at the show’s timeline catching up with this season’s flash forwards very soon.
“It’s very exciting that the audience is going to be wondering when is the present going to be (next season),” he said. “We’ve moved backward in time, now we’ve moved forward in time. The present of the show has always been on the island — that may not necessarily be the case in the future.”
As for any future bonuses in the future, Lindelof says don’t count on it.
“(Executive producer) Carlton Cuse and I worked so hard to get the show to end that I think to suddenly say, ‘Oh, I think we got another season in us’ would be a betrayal to everybody involved in the show — but most of all the audience,” he said. “It’s better to retire your number at the top of your game.”
