HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The dance is over for Shannon Elizabeth and Derek Hough.
The couple, who met when the actress was paired with the pro dancer on “ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” have ended their romance. They announced their split late Friday on Twitter.
“Hi everyone, we wanted you all to know directly from us, that Shannon & I have decided to end our relationship as boyfriend & girlfriend…” Hough Tweeted first, followed by Elizabeth’s Tweet: “however, we love & care about each other very much & will remain friends & in each other’s lives.”
No reason was given for the couple’s breakup.
Elizabeth, 35, and Hough, 24, had been dating for more than a year. The pair was matched together on the sixth season of “Dancing,” only to be eliminated in the show’s seventh week.
Shortly after the couple’s split was revealed, the “American Pie” star thanked her fans for their support.
“Thank you everyone for all your sweet words & encouragement — it really means a lot to me!” she Tweeted.
