HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Brooks & Dunn is calling it a career together.
The country music duo revealed plans to break up on Monday after topping the charts for two decades.
“After 20 years of making music and riding this trail together, we have agreed as a duo that it’s time to call it a day,” they shared on their official Web site. “This ride has been everything and more than we could ever have dreamed. We owe it all to you, the fans.”
The duo also encouraged fans to ignore what they may come across in the media.
“If you hear rumors, don’t believe them, it’s just time,” they said of the break up.
Brooks & Dunn said they will be releasing their album “#1s and … and then some” in September before heading out on a farewell concert tour in 2010.
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn exploded onto the country music scene in 1991 behind their debut album “Brand New Man.” Each of the album’s first four singles — “Brand New Man,” “My Next Broken Heart,” “Neon Moon” and “Boot Scootin’ Boogie” — reached number one on the country music charts.
Brooks & Dunn would go on to release more than a dozen albums, with 20 singles reaching the top of the country music charts. They also dominated the Top Duo category at the Country Music Awards, winning every year from 1992 through 2006 — with their run broken once by Montgomery Gentry in 2000.
