To no one’s surprise, the lovely folks of Net-A-Porter‘s magazine The Edit recently tried to get Eva Mendes to talk about boyfriend Ryan Gosling — and failed.
In the interview, the 39-year-old talks about pretty much everything else: her new fashion line (“It’s directly inspired by my closet”), her early days as an actress (“I had to choose between paying the rent sometimes and having artistic integrity”), her new film How to Catch a Monster (directed by Gosling) and her beloved dogs (one belonging to Gosling).
“I’m sorry. I’m shutting down,” Mendes tells The Edit when asked about her romantic life.
“I’m such a weirdo. I literally lose my ability to speak — and you were doing so well.”
Ouch.
The brave reporter tries again, this time bringing up a rumor that Mendes wants to get hitched before turning the big 4-0 (which happens in March).
“I live in a very protective kind of bubble that I’ve created for myself,” she says, before reminding the dear reporter that one of her dogs Hugo, is “an attack dog.”
