HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Robert Pattinson gets amused by the constant gossip that he’s dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart.
“It doesn’t make any difference what you say [to the tabloids],” the 23-year-old actor tells Vanity Fair “I’ve literally been across the country [from Kristen], and it’s like ‘Oh, they were on secret dates!’ It’s like ‘Where? I can’t get out of my hotel room!’ “
While he insists there’s nothing romantic with Stewart, Pattinson is thankful that he has her in his life.
“She’s influenced how I’ve done all the Twilight stuff,” he explains. “It’s quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything.”
Director Catherine Hardwicke says the pair’s relationship was exactly what the doctor ordered.
“What Rob and Kristen had is a multitude of feelings for each other. Complex feelings for each other,” Hardwicke says. “It was what we needed. Complex, intense fascination.”
While Hardwicke recalls Pattinson as “always drunk” and entertaining the cast in his hotel room with his guitar during filming, the English actor says been in the public eye frightens him.
“I guess I’m not the type of guy cut out to do a franchise,” he says. “I’m not much of a crowd person.”
