HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lady Gaga was forced to cancel several upcoming shows on Friday, one day after she collapsed backstage before a scheduled gig at Purdue University’s Elliott Hall of Music.
The 23-year-old pop star canceled three performances, including a show scheduled for Saturday at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City.
“Unfortunately, due to exhaustion and dehydration, Lady Gaga collapsed and passed out before her show last night in West Lafayette, IN, and her physician has advised her to take a few days off to rest. As a result, three shows have been cancelled, including the Borgata performance tomorrow, Saturday, January 16,” read a statement posted on the casino’s Web site.
Gaga was suffering from an irregular heartbeat, “a result of exhaustion and dehydration,” when paramedics examined her backstage at Purdue, according to a message she posted on Twitter after the show was called off.
“[I] can’t apologize enough for how sorry I am,” she wrote. “I could hear my fans cheering from my dressing room, I begged everyone to let me go onstage … My stage has complicated mechanical elements, everyone was concerned I’d be in danger during the 2hr show, since I had passed out earlier.”
“I am so devastated,” she continued. “I have performed with the flu, a cold, strep throat: I would never cancel a show just based on discomfort … I hope you can forgive me. I love my little monsters more than anything, you are everything to me.”
Lady Gaga, who is currently in the midst of her Monster Ball Tour, has since rescheduled the Purdue show for Jan. 26.
New dates for the other canceled shows have yet to be revealed.
