HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — A stolen Mercedes Benz belonging to Charlie Sheen was found crashed off a steep Mulholland Drive cliff in Los Angeles early Friday.
The four-door sedan was discovered after officials were notified around 4 a.m. by the vehicle’s OnStar-style alert system, Officer Wendy Reyes told the Associated Press. At about the same time, Sheen dialed authorities to report the vehicle had been stolen from his home in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Police searched the area where the vehicle was discovered, but were unable to locate anyone nearby.
“They’ve looked all around the hillside. There’s nobody in the car, nobody around (and no) evidence of anybody being around at the moment of impact,” Officer Bruce Borihanh told AP.
“It’s being treated as an auto theft investigation,” he added.
The actor’s publicist confirmed the stolen vehicle belonged to Sheen, but did not offer any additional details.
“Charlie is fine, and the police are investigating,” rep Stan Rosenfield said.
Sheen, 44, was arrested on Christmas Day after a domestic dispute with his wife, Brooke Mueller. He was charged with second-degree assault and menacing, both felonies, along with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor. He is due in court on Monday for a hearing on whether to modify the current restraining order against him.
The Two and a Half Men joked about the stolen vehicle incident in an interview with The Insider.
“It was nice to have police come to my house and for once I didn’t have to leave with them,” quipped Sheen.
