HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Kirk Cameron is speaking out after his Growing Pains co-star Andrew Koenig was reported missing over the weekend.
“I am very concerned to hear of the disappearance of my old friend Andrew Koenig,” Cameron told Access Hollywood in a statement. “Although I have not had contact with him for many years, I can remember many of the fun times we had on the set of Growing Pains.”
On Sunday, Koenig’s family revealed that the 41-year-old actor was last seen at a bakery in Vancouver, Canada on Feb. 14. His cell phone last received a text message on Feb. 16, the same day he failed to board a return flight to the U.S.
“He went up to [Vancouver] to visit friends who last saw him on the 14th,” Danielle Koenig, his sister, told Zap2it.com. “Any information we can get on his whereabouts would be helpful.”
The Koenigs say the actor was “suffering from depression” at the time of his disappearance. They have not heard from him since Feb. 9.
Cameron, who played Mike Seaver on the popular ’80s television series, while Koenig played his best friend Richard “Boner” Stabone, said he was hopeful there would be a happy ending to the star’s disappearance.
“I am praying for his family during this time of distress and for his safe return,” said Cameron. “Andrew, if you’re reading this, please call me. Mike and Boner could always work things out when they put their minds to it. I’m praying for you, pal. Hope to hear from you soon.”
Individuals with information on the star’s whereabouts may contact Detective Raymond Payette of the Vancouver Police Department at (604) 717-2534.
