HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — The parents of missing Growing Pains actor Andrew Koenig made a passionate plea Wednesday for the public’s help in finding their son.
“It’s very, very tough,” his father, actor Walter Koenig, said on NBC’s Today Show. “He was very depressed about his life.”
His mother, Judy, said she hopes her son realizes how special he is to everyone around him.
“He is much loved and beloved in this world, and I just hope he gets that feeling,” she said.
On Sunday, Koenig’s family revealed that the 41-year-old star was last seen at a bakery in Vancouver, Canada on Feb. 14. His cell phone last received a text message on Feb. 16, the same day he failed to board a return flight to the U.S.
The Koenigs have not heard from their son since Feb. 9, but they are trying to stay positive and not fear for the worse.
“I don’t want to think that way,” said the family patriarch, best known for playing Pavel Chekov on Star Trek. “I’m trying very hard not to think that way.”
Earlier this week, Kirk Cameron spoke out about the disappearance of his Growing Pains co-star.
“I am praying for his family during this time of distress and for his safe return,” said Cameron, who played Mike Seaver on the popular ’80s television series, while Koenig played his best friend Richard “Boner” Stabone. “Andrew, if you’re reading this, please call me. Mike and Boner could always work things out when they put their minds to it. I’m praying for you, pal. Hope to hear from you soon.”
Individuals with information on the star’s whereabouts may contact Detective Raymond Payette of the Vancouver Police Department at (604) 717-2534.
