‘Alice in Wonderland’ Remains Weekend Box Office Queen

Alice in WonderlandHOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tim Burton’s fantasy adventure Alice in Wonderland extended its stay atop the box office with weekend sales of $34.5 million, according to studio estimates released Sunday.

The Walt Disney Studios film, starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as Alice, easily outdistanced Diary of a Wimpy Kid, which debuted at No. 2 with $21.8 million.

In its third week, Alice in Wonderland raised its domestic total to $265.8 million. Last weekend, it became the top-grossing of Burton and Depp’s seven films together, a distinction previously held by Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler’s action comedy The Bounty Hunter debuted at $21 million to finish third over the weekend.

Repo Men, the action thriller starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker, debuted at No. 4 with $6.2 million.

She’s Out of My League, a romantic comedy starring Jay Baruchel and newcomer Alice Eve, finished fifth in its second week with $6 million.
