Wine Spectator has named the Jolie-Pitt & Perrin Côtes de Provence Rosé Miraval wine, from 2012, the 84th best wine of 2013. It’s the highest ranking of a rosé wine this year.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s wine retails for $28. Reviewing the wine for the magazine’s annual Top 100 Wines list, Wine Spectator managing editor Kim Marcus wrote: “Refined and elegant, offering pure and concentrated flavors of dried red berry, tangerine and melon. The focused finish features flint and spice notes, with a hint of cream. Drink now. 15,000 cases imported.”
It isn’t the first rave review for the Jolie-Pitt clan’s wine, which is made at their vineyard in Provence. When the wine initially went on sale in March, it sold out in just five hours. It was also heralded by Master Chef judge Joe Bastianich, who called the wine “very, very, very pretty” in a review for Vanity Fair:
“With the nose, it has macerated wild strawberries, confectionary sugars, and strawberry or raspberry PEZ, like the candy. In taste, the varietals it’s made of — grenache, etc. — make it slightly acidic on the palate. Not in a bad way, but it’s definitely real and acidic, and firm. It’s very pretty on the olfactories — rose petals and confectionary sugar — but a little rougher on the palate. But it’s a very serious wine.”
