HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal team is disputing a report about the defense strategy the physician plans to use in the upcoming Michael Jackson death case.
On Sunday, TMZ reported that the Houston-based doctor will contend that it was Jackson who injected himself with a fatal dose of Propofol – not Murray.
"We do not know what sources to which TMZ is referring," a Murray rep told Access Hollywood in a statement. "We only know it didn’t come from [attorney] Ed [Chernoff] who has the final word."
"In any case, it is premature to discuss defense strategy," added the rep. "Dr. Murray’s defense will depend on the People’s theory of prosecution, which has not yet been made available to the defense team."
In February, Murray pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter charges, nearly eight months after the King of Pop’s death. He is due in court Monday, where his legal team anticipates "a short appearance."
"We will be requesting a reset date to enable the prosecution to provide the remainder of the discovery documents," Chernoff said in a statement Sunday. "We also anticipate discussing the request for amendment of bail conditions, filed by the California Attorney General. After the court appearance, Dr. Murray and his team will immediately leave the courthouse. There will be no press conference."
