HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has signed a worldwide publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group, the global music company announced Thursday.
Weiland joins fellow bandmates Robert DeLeo, Dean DeLeo and Eric Kretz, who each renewed their exisiting deals with Universal. The publishing deal encompasses such notable recordings as "Plush," "Interstate Love Song," "Vasoline," "Big Bang Baby" and "Trippin’ On A Hole In a Paper Heart," among others.
The deal comes on the heels of the band’s surging new song, "Between the Lines." The track is the first single off STP’s upcoming self-titled album, which drops on May 25. The group’s sixth studio release marks their first album since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da.
"Stone Temple Pilots are one of the most iconic and thought-provoking live acts to emerge from American rock and roll of the 90’s," said Tom Sturges, Head of Creative, Universal Music Publishing Group. "With their new album they continue the tradition of great songwriting and remarkable performance. I am thrilled that Scott Weiland has joined the DeLeo Brothers and Eric Kretz here at UMPG. We look forward to working very closely with STP, Dana Dufine, and Atlantic Records in bringing this striking and artistic new album to the world."
