Tonight, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the Royal film performance of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. While this was happening, the film’s famous subject, Nelson Mandela passed away in South Africa.
Following the screening at Odeon Leicester Square, Prince William gave a brief statement to the media.
“It is extremely sad and tragic news,” the Duke told reporters. ”We are reminded of what an extraordinary and inspiring man Nelson Mandela was.
“My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family. It’s very sad.”
Mandela’s daughter, Zindzi was at tonight’s premiere in London when her father passed away.
