HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Country star Chely Wright is the latest celebrity to come out.
The 39-year-old singer tells People magazine that she was initially reluctant to discuss being gay.
"There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her homosexuality," she tells the mag. "I wasn’t going to be the first."
Wright says she "hid everything for [her] music," but is now thankful to have shared her secret.
"Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out," says Wright, who has been romantically linked in the past to fellow country star Brad Paisley.
The revelation comes as Wright prepares to release her memoir, Like Me, and her new album, Lifted Off the Ground, this week.
