HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Lisa Kelly remains uncertain about her sex-symbol status as the only female driver on the popular History Channel series Ice Road Truckers.
"I don’t know what other people are gonna think," the 29-year-old Alaska native tells the New York Post about adding a new wrinkle to an industry traditionally dominated by men. "It’s interesting to put a woman’s twist on [Ice Road Truckers] and if that’s how I’m perceived, well, it’s not up to me."
Kelly is currently in the midst of her second season on Truckers, where she’s attempting to be taken seriously as an elite driver.
"I have nothing in the chamber right now, just whatever comes my way," she says of her future plans. "The show has opened up a lot of doors."
One of those opportunities meant spending the last two months hauling cement in India’s Himalayas, the setting for next season.
"It was completely different in every way," says Kelly, nicknamed the lady of the Ice Road. "It was just a cliffside; we have mountain driving here, but not a little road that goes higher and higher."
"And the trucks [in India] are different," she adds. "They’re not as big and not very powerful at all, which added to the danger factor. We had an Indian spotter with us for safety’s sake and he ended up being more of a pain than a help — he was confusing me on the rules and making stuff up as we went along."
