The Amazing Spider-Man 2 failed to live up to its name at the box office this weekend, raking in $92 million in what analysts are nevertheless calling a disappointing debut. Box Office Mojo notes that the total is far short of the opening numbers for the first and third installments in Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy, which both premiered during the first weekend in May and took in $114.8 million and $151.1 million, respectively. Still, with no other wide-release movie to compete with, the 2014 sequel still easily landed at No. 1 for the weekend.
