HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Dozens of celebrities took to Twitter Wednesday after a federal judge overturned California’s Prop 8, which banned same-sex marriages in the state.
"This just in: Equality won!" wrote TV host Ellen DeGeneres, who married actress Portia de Rossi in 2008, shortly before Prop. 8 was instituted.
"YEAHHHHH!!!!! #PROP8UNCONSTITUTIONAL MOVING FORWARD!!!!!!!!" added singer Ricky Martin, who announced he was gay in March.
Another openly gay male singer, Adam Lambert, also expressed his excitement with the ruling.
"Prop 8 Overturned! I’m glad California has restored the right for ALL of its citizens to marry whoever they please!" said the former American Idol star. "Equal rights are very Glam!"
Other stars who chimed in on Twitter included Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton.
"Prop 8 was struck down! This news is amazing!!!!" said Kardashian. "Its about time! Congrats to everyone!"
"What a huge historical day for equal rights in this country! They finally overturned Prop 8!" Hilton told her Twitter followers. "There shouldn’t be a law on true love. :)"
