HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Johnny Knoxville and his fellow pranksters outgrossed the competition as Jackass 3D opened with a whopping $50 million in tickets sales to easily win the weekend box office, according to studio estimates released Sunday.
The total was the highest debut for the Paramount franchise, which has seen all three films premiere at No. 1.
Summit Entertainment’s action comedy Red premiered in second place with $22.5 million. David Fincher’s The Social Network slipped to third at $11 million after winning the box office in its first two weekends.
Secretariat ($9.5 million) and Life as We Know It ($9.2 million) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to round out the weekend top five.
Weekend Box Office Oct. 15-17:
