HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Taylor Swift won’t cling to a relationship that she knows isn’t met to last.
"I’m typically single a lot," the 20-year-old country star tells Allure magazine for its December issue. "I have a phobia about being in the wrong relationship, so as soon as I establish it’s not the right one I don’t want to waste their time."
Swift has a reputation for writing songs about some of those former boyfriends, a list of exes that includes the likes of Joe Jonas, John Mayer, Taylor Lautner and Cory Monteith.
"I can only write the material I know, which is what happens to me," she says of the material on her third album, Speak Now. "And luckily I’ve had a crazy two years. Not just careerwise, but emotionally, too."
When it comes to finding Mr. Right, the singer says she’s learned to just go with the flow.
"I used to think there were all these rules for making people like you," explains Swift, who is now rumored to be dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal. "Like, the best way to get a guy to like you would be to actively ignore him. I was filled with advice! I’d tell my friends things like, ‘Don’t accept that apology! That isn’t sincere!’ But love is never that simple. Now I’m finally getting the idea it’s the one thing I don’t need to have a strategy for."
