It’s been over three decades since Elvis Costello released his debut record “My Aim is True,” which Pitchfork calls the 80th best album of all time. But Elvis has revamped the lyrics of one of the album’s hit songs for the “Sesame Street” crowd in a duet with Elmo — and it’s awesome.
Looking trim, Costello parodies the lyrics to “(The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes,” a song originally written by Nick Lowe that Elvis covered on his first album. In the “Sesame Street” version, Costello expresses his desire to count to ten, but cannot — because alas, “The Monster Went and Ate [My] Red 2.” Elmo joins him as a fellow Angry Young Monster, wearing the signature Costello fedora, spectacles and clothing style.
We hope Costello shows up with The Imposters soon to sing another educational song from his legendary discography.
