HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Tony Parker is opening up for the first time since his marriage to Eva Longoria came to a shocking end two months ago.
In an interview with the French newspaper Le Parisien, the NBA star says basketball has been a blessing in taking his mind off the twosome’s divorce.
"The most important thing is to stay strong mentally, even if these are very difficult times," Parker says. "I’ve take refuge in basketball because that’s what I’ve done best since my youth."
Longoria, 35, filed for divorce after she allegedly found out Parker had been flirting with Erin Barry, wife of his former San Antonio Spurs teammate Brent Barry. Days later, the 28-year-old Parker filed his own divorce petition.
Parker tells his native paper that he’s trying to "make sense of things" while receiving support from his "teammates, coaches and San Antonio." In addition, the guard says: "My whole family has been around me through this."
The ordeal certainly hasn’t impacted Parker’s play on the court. In fact, his team owns the NBA’s best record.
"You have to know how to keep things in perspective," Parker says. "I am, first of all, a basketball player. I’ve done this for so very long … For me, it’s been essential to be successful on the court."
