Demi Lovato is crediting Beyonce and Kim Kardashian for changing the standards of beauty.
The 22-year-old singer talked to Access Hollywood on Aug. 28. about the two powerful females and how they’re influencing society’s definition of what “beautiful” really is. Demi also talked about her own personal struggles and how she learned to love her body.
It’s no secret that Demi has struggled with personal issues in the past. However, she’s now looking back on those dark days and realizing how much happier she is today. Demi recently took to Instagram to share a collection of pictures of her at the MTV Video Music Awards over the years. When talking with Access Demi said, “The very first time that I ever went to the VMAs and I just looked so bony and fragile and unhappy. Yes, I was at the VMAs and I was 16 and I was having an incredible time, but at the same time I was miserable.”
Now that she’s had time reflect, Demi’s learning a lesson. She revealed, “I look back at that and I think you know what, I may have been thinner, but I am so happy that I am healthy today and I have curves which are a lot more sexier than what I was aiming for. I think curves are beautiful and I feel great.” Good for you Demi!
Demi said that the ideal body image was different when she was growing up compared to what it is now. Demi dished, “When I was growing up and when I was a pre-teen, the people that I had to look up to [for] body image [were] extremely underweight… [They] were all very bony at that time and that was the in thing.”
Now, things are different. Demi revealed, “I really credit women like Beyonce and Kim Kardashian… [they] completely revolutionized what our generation’s view of perception of what beautiful is and I really think that they had a huge impact on that. You can think whatever you want about the Kardashians, but they really did help tons of women feel comfortable in their own skin and I like to carry that message on.”
We love that Demi is proud of her curves! They are gorgeous and so is she!
