Fashion star, TV personality and PEOPLE StyleWatch Style Council member Louise Roe has taken us inside some of the most exclusive bashes in Hollywood before — from New York Fashion Week to Cannes to the Oscars. And now with the Emmys mere hours away, she’s giving us a backstage look at her preparations for the red carpet, from her favorite Monique Lhuillier gowns (the label’s a go-to for Roe) to the shoes and bags she’s considering. “This year I’m reporting live for Access Hollywood. I’m looking for an eye-catching outfit, but also one I can stand in for four hours straight!” she tells PEOPLE. Check out her first-person dress-fitting diary, below, and tell us your top picks for the star — then scroll down to see if you predicted right?

The Emmys is always super fun to cover, because movie stars mingle with their favorite TV stars (and vice versa!) so the atmosphere is full of energy. And the dress code is versatile too: some people go all out with big Oscar-style gowns, while others rock a less formal party look with bright, short dresses.
My first (and only!) stop for a frock is at Monique Lhuillier, one of my favorite red carpet designers. Wearing her dresses is like stepping into a fairytale. She creates the most wistful, flattering silhouettes and plenty of stunning patterns, which I love to wear.
At her flagship boutique on Melrose Place, I try on three different dresses. I love them all — it’s difficult to choose! The purple, voluminous dress is ruffled and decadent, I feel very elegant. Then, the jumpsuit! Oh, I’m in love. The scalloped lace neckline is a ladylike touch, and the bell sleeve gives the look an exotic vibe. Just as I think I’ll wear the jumpsuit, I try on the red gown. The corset fits like a glove, and the train is full-throttle Hollywood glam. Red and orange are my favorite colors; I always feel very confident and happy when I wear them. Decisions, decisions!

For my shoes, I’m thinking either gold or red heels with an open toe. I gather a selection of strappy sandals and try them all on: Jimmy Choo strappy booties, three different pairs of Monique Lhuillier heels and a pair of T-bar studded sandals in bright red by Vince Camuto. I like the idea of wearing red; it’s something a little different.
Then I move on to bags. The accessories make the outfit! I’m obsessed with solid clutches. If I’m going with red shoes, then I’ll keep the clutch metallic. There’s one with a little handle by DVF, and the rest are made from resin, by Edie Parker. I can’t decide! This might have to be a last-minute decision once I’m in my dress …
And as for jewelry (below)? Martin Katz makes really amazing, modern pieces, and I chose some white diamonds to complement (not compete with) my outfit. I’m going for very natural, glowy makeup this year, with my hair in a low bun, parted down the center. A pair of round studs, a matching ring and delicate bangles are a nice clean and chic combination.

Roe revealed her final picks on Instagram, saying “Tadah! What do you guys think of my look?” She opted for an Edie Parker clutch and the red Monique Lhuillier sandals, and we have to say, the whole thing came together beautifully.
