Carrie Underwood put a big smile on everyone’s face when she announced that her firstborn will be a boy while co-hosting the Country Music Awards earlier this month. Now, the country crooner is opening up about how she and her hubby Mike Fisher first found out about the sex of their baby.
The couple decided from the start that they wanted the big reveal to be a special moment, not within the confines of a doctor’s office.
“It’s kind of a sterile place,” Underwood told ABC News Radio. “We got to see all the pictures and everything. It was really cool to see that, but whenever [the doctor] would get near those parts, we would look away.”
So the couple decided to ask the doctor to write the baby’s gender on a piece of paper and put it in an envelope that they could open during a more special time.
“[It was] just the two of us in a nicer setting, but we both knew,” she recalls, describing the restaurant at which they decided to open the envelope. “So, that was just confirming our suspicions. we didn’t really speak of it before because we were both just like, ‘Whatever. It’s all good.’ But we knew it was a boy.”
The “Something in the Water” singer announced her pregnancy in September (on Labor Day!) and has shown off her growing baby bump a few times on the red carpet. She also opened up about feeling a bit anxious to be “responsible for a tiny human,” but we all know she’s going to be amazing! I mean, she’s Carrie Underwood!
